Just a random story
This happened to me and because it is quite funny to me, I thought I should share.
The story starts like this: I'm a cheapskate. In my eyes, I'll probably always be a cheapskate. I would walk if I could, even if it meant lugging around 28kg worth of things from the bus station to my house (which is around 3.5km). I would do grocery shopping at five different places if I could, even if it meant taking up more time. I would eat less if I could, even if it meant eating not more than 500g of meat a week for three meals a day.
But people seem to be really...mean.
I understand if you think I'm crazy for doing kinda extreme things in order to save a buck, and will never do what I do to be thrifty. But why are people judging me? I don't think it is necessary.
So anyway...
It was my friend's birthday and I went to Primark to get some stuff for her. She likes girly things and Primark is the ultimate bargain place to get pretty and affordable girly stuff. (Look at exhibits below)
It is not that bad, right? Obviously some things were overpriced so I did not get her those things. I bought the things that I thought she would definitely use and would definitely not burn a hole in my pocket.
Then I realised I needed wrapping paper. I never ever buy wrapping paper here cause I don't really need it. I'm in Spain for Christmas (they obviously have wrapping paper there), usually bake muffins or cook something for people's birthdays and give cards for V Day.
I knew I was definitely going to be wiser and not waste money on wrapping paper like I did in Year 1 (although I donated the remaining to some friends so it did not really go to waste). So I came up with a brilliant idea.
I COULD USE A BROWN PAPER BAG AS WRAPPING PAPER. Like so:
Simple and vintage looking. I'm a genius. Thank you.
But this story has a sad ending. When I passed the present to my friend, my present was pale in comparison with other presents. First, it looked weird cause mine was the only dull brown-coloured looking package sitting in a corner. Second, the contents were lame nail polishes and jewellery bearing the Primark logo. Other people bought her Cath Kidston lotions and Pandora bracelets, etc.
Hmmm... I guess it is what it is. Or it is?
Months passed and people still make fun of me for being 'insincere' and cheapskate. I know I'm a cheapskate but how was I insincere? It is not like I buy myself Cath Kidston lotions and Pandora bracelets but stinge when it comes to friends' presents.
The only high-end things I have are hand-me-downs and gifts from sweet friends and family members. And I consider Zara and Topshop high-end, by the way. (If I may add, the only Zara clothing or item that I own is a Christmas gift that I got in 2013. I swear I almost cried when I saw it.)
I have no assets to my name and the most expensive thing I have treated myself to is my dog so I don't understand why people are so mean. Why can't they understand?
Oh, and when they got wind that I cut my own hair instead of going to salons, their expressions were to die for. Imagine this but on an actual person's face:
Hmmm... it doesn't look good in real life. Trust me, I have seen many faces like that.
If only people were more empathetic and self-aware...
I don't know what the ending of this story is but
If only people were more empathetic and self-aware...
I don't know what the ending of this story is but
This is the story so far and The End!
